Four months of torture, shame, pain, distress, misery and let's not forget nausea. Four freaking months of craving bizarre food that scared even her. Four months, since she had been able to fit in anything that wasn't medium or large, four long tedious months... Staying inside her house was getting insufferable, she missed going out and being able to socialize with her friends but her situation prevented that. She was too embarrassed by the reality that she was pregnant by an anonymous man, not that anyone knew the truth, but just the mere fact that she was, left her feeling ashamed.
Lady Tsunade had been lenient with her, allowing her to take as much time off as she'd liked, but four months was too long whether or not she was pregnant! So today would be the first time in a long while since Sakura had actually set foot outside her apartment. Throughout the whole ordeal Ino had been a friend, stopping by to help Sakura with the groceries and even the cleaning. Apart from Tsunade, Ino had been the only one who knew the actual story. She had been reluctant to spill to Ino but after all the pig had done for her the least she could do was tell her the truth. Ino didn't hide her amusement, she couldn't quite digest the fact that proud little Sakura Haruno had slept with an unnamed stranger and had managed to get herself pregnant.
Boy was Ino fascinated, but Sakura made her promise not to share it with anyone. And much to Yamanaka's displeasure, she had agreed. Besides if she was in Sakura's position she wouldn't want anyone to know either. So they both stuck with the story that Sakura had told her before about dating a guy from a foreign country and getting engaged. I know... cliché right but anything was better than the truth. Though the story would soon have to be changed, for when the time comes and there's no wedding or groom people are going to start asking questions that not even Sakura thinks she'd be able to answer.
Then there would be the issue of this alleged 'fiancé' not showing up for the birth of his child. There would be a countless amount of chaos coming her way, but she had to focus on the present. She needed to start planning for the arrival of this child for whether she liked it or not there was going to be a baby in four more months. Pretending as if there wasn't going to be one would no doubt be one reckless decision too many.
Stepping out of the shower Sakura grabbed a huge towel and wrapped it around her swollen figure, slowly she walked to the face basin where she looked at herself releasing a distressing sigh... she was getting fat!
"Four more months. Four more," she chanted to herself. In four more months there would be a bouncing new baby boy or girl in her household. In four more months all sense of freedom would have been completely lost. How would she pull this off on her own? She was a child herself, barely out of school! How would she provide, nurture, love and care for a child when she herself needed all the above necessities? Hesitantly she walked out of the bathroom into her bedroom where she took her time in getting dressed. Never rush perfection, she was always taught by Tsunade. Ha! she was the furthest thing from perfect at the moment.
Examining her stomach in the mirror on her closet door Sakura couldn't help but half smiling. Rubbing her abdomen she thought about the ensuing madness to come when this little 'bundle of joy' arrived. So many preparations to be made, the guest room had to be turned into a nursery; the house had to be baby-proof, baby furniture, toys, books and all. It was going to be hectic on her own but she had the help of her friends so the baby would be fine. The question was, will she?
Rubbing her stomach lightly she spoke very softly to it. Since staying indoors for so long Sakura had taken up talking to her stomach as a new hobby, strangely her baby was a very good listener she laughed to herself. At nights she would talk to it, reassuring it that everything would be fine.
One day Ino had caught her reading a story to her tummy and had almost died of laughter; commenting that Sakura's obsession with the child's father was driving her nuts. It's not that she was obsessed with the damn man she just wished that there was some way to find him. To show him what their carelessness had lead to that night. And given the circumstances she'd need all the help she could get. She wasn't expecting him to come and marry her but she could really use some financial help at the moment. There was only so much that one could do with a nurse's salary. But she had given up all hopes of finding her mysterious lover two weeks ago when the search party came back with no lead. Besides all the money she invested in that search could have gone towards the renovation of her guest room in the nursery. So a huge chunk of the baby's money had gone down the drain.
A glance at her watch told Sakura that she was behind time, being pregnant was really costing her time and money. She quickly got dressed, slipping on her white uniform, white stocking, white flats and took up her coat, it was quite cold outside. Grabbing her already packed handbag and car keys she headed for the door, promising to stop by the cafe to get some breakfast. She was already running late, stopping to make a snack would cost her. She didn't waste a second longer in her flat, rushing into the awaiting elevator she almost stumbled into the young man in the elevator.
"Sakura-chan," he greeted, his blue eyes widen at the sight of Sakura dressed for work. Wasn't she on an extended leave?
"Good morning Naruto," she said flatly dismissing his curious gaze.
"I almost mistook you for Chouji a while ago," he joked but Sakura had a deadly temper that scared the hell out of him. And now that she was pregnant he feared that he might be the one mistaken for Chouji when she was done with him.
He could see a vein on her temple twitching uncontrollably, but she didn't say anything nor did she make any attempt to punch him. Instead she got off the lift at the ground floor and told him to have a nice day. Naruto didn't know whether to be grateful that she hadn't sent him into intensive care or be totally creeped out that Sakura was actually being nice.
Clutching the coat closer to her, she stepped outside, wincing as the harshness of the atmosphere decorated her skin with goose bumps. She marvelled at how foreign the outdoors looked and felt. Walking cautiously to her car that hasn't been driven in weeks she prayed that the engine wasn't frozen. Opening the door she placed her handbag on the passenger's seat, took off her coat and placed it in on the back seat. Closing the car door she inserted the key and gave out a sigh of relief as the engine softly came alive. She had to pull back the seat though, her stomach made it uncomfortable to sit so close to the steering wheel. Turning on the radio, she steered out the parking space and sped down the drive way.
There wasn't much traffic on the road and she thanked God for that. Her stomach grumbled reminding her that she hadn't eaten yet.
"Thanks for reminding me," she grinned down at her stomach. She really needed friends, she thought grimly. Resorting to talking to a fetus was the first sign of insanity.
A few minutes later she pulled into The Cafe's parking lot, digging into her bag she took out her purse and made her way into the building. The bell chimed as she flung the door open, greeted by the smell of french fries, fried chicken, cheese, coffee and freshly baked pastries. It was like paradise to a pregnant woman. A few weeks ago the smell of such foods would send her on a trip to the restroom, but now, she was tempted to order every greasy and salty item that was sold in here. Walking over to the counter she ordered large cup of French vanilla coffee and a cheeseburger to go. Not the healthiest choice for a pregnant woman but that's what she wants and she was sure that's what the baby wanted as well.
"And a small French fry," she told the cashier who looked at her strangely. "Is there a problem?" Sakura asked slightly annoyed.
"No m'am, extra salt?" She asked.
"Yes please," walking over to an unoccupied table Sakura sat down and phoned Tsunade to tell her that she was on her way. She was not too happy about the delay but she understood.
"Just hurry and get your fat little ass to work," Tsunade laughed.
"I'm not fat!" she whined playfully. Sakura had a strangely good relationship with Tsunade; she was in fact her mentor. Someone she could depend on, trust, talk to and ask for comfort during times of need. Over the years she had become somewhat like a second mother. But since of lately, it seemed that Tsunade had indeed became Sakura's mother for her own had stopped talking to her when she found out that her daughter had gotten pregnant at such a young age and worst she didn't even know the father! So Tsunade was a very important figure in her life, she was her motivator and inspiration.
On days when Sakura felt like giving up, Tsunade would be the one to put some sense into her head, telling her that maybe this was all for the best. And to some extent it was, she has become a stronger person, a better nurse and now that she had another life growing inside her, she was striving even more to succeed for the sake of herself and her child. But let's not forget that Sakura's human and when the pressure gets too much she'll cave.
"Just remember that I'm no longer the head of your unit anymore and your new supervisor might not be as lenient as I am with you."
Sakura gripped the phone as she remembered the real reason why she was not in any rush to get to work. Tsunade had been replaced by a new doctor. Not by force but by choice Tsunade had decided to take on the task of becoming the head surgeon. So she wouldn't have much time to supervise the little nurses. But according to Ino, Tsunade's replacement was the best. Not only was he a pleasure to the sight but he had the most gifted hands. She didn't care about that! She wanted Tsunade back!
"Why couldn't one of the nurses be the supervisor, why do we need a doctor, don't they already have enough on their hands to be supervising us?" Sakura asked, somehow her remorse turned into irritation.
"When you get to that level you'll understand Sakura," Tsunade answered calmly, she knew Sakura was just upset that she had bailed on them but she'll see that it was all for the best.
"If I ever get there..." Sakura said and Tsunade scold her for being such a pessimist.
"How long will you continue to beat yourself up?'' Tsunade asked annoyance evident from her end of the line. "When you fall, you get back up and dust yourself off and continue running, Sakura."
"Please spare me the lecture," Sakura laughed.
"I will, this time because I'm needed,'' Tsunade said."But if you ever try to blame that child again Sakura I swear I will literally knock some logics into her head."
The line went dead and Sakura looked apologetically at her stomach, "I'd never blame you for something like that."
"Don't tell me you're still talking to yourself?'' A voice asked and Sakura stumbled to her feet to meet a grinning Ino dressed in her nurse's uniform as well. "Well forehead?''
Sakura frowned at her and sat back down, "I wasn't talking to myself.''
"How did you get here?'' Ino sat down as well, popping out her phone, using the screen as a mirror to examine herself. Why didn't she just drop out of medic school and take up modelling if she was so obsessed with beauty? Sakura asked herself. Then flushed, why did Ino's presence annoy her so much? Surely it had nothing to do with the fact that Ino was still lean and trim and she was getting pudgy.
"I drove," Sakura said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I'm surprised that you're even able to fit inside the car," Ino laughed and Sakura looked away seriously contemplating whether or not to reply. She wasn't that fat, geez.
"I'm joking geez," Ino nudged her playfully. "How's my God daughter doing?''
Ino had this crazy theory that woman who didn't experience morning sickness in the mornings but instead at the nights would give birth to girls. There wasn't any logic to it, but Sakura had seen many cases where it was true. But every woman's body was different. And yes Ino had decided to take up the title of God mother. Sakura didn't object, it was only fair to ask her best friend to be her first child's God parent. But as it was she was thinking about asking Tsunade.
"He's fine Ino." Unlike Ino, Sakura was convinced that she was carrying a boy, and she'd much rather a son over a daughter. For reasons only a pregnant woman can tell you. She had refused to find out the gender simply because she wanted to be surprised, for the time being she'll let her imagination run wild. "I can't wait to feel his first kick.''
Ino grinned, "You're four months pregnant Sakura I think it's going to be a while."
Sakura smiled, "I know," touching her stomach lightly, who was she kidding, she wouldn't have changed anything about that night. This child was so dear to her. Her mind slowly drifted back to four months ago...
"And what if you don't fall asleep?'' he had asked, his pallid eyes boring holes in her face.
"Then I guess, you'll just have to stay the night," she walked shakily towards him by the door.
"I can't do that," he said watching her as she made her way over to him, pushed him aside and closed the door behind him. "I've got a home and a family."
"So do I, but you don't hear me complaining about wanting to go home do you?'' she stood up straight trying to be levelled with him. "Stop whining the night is young," she danced around him grinning while her emerald eyes hinted very naughty desires. "Besides, don't you want to kiss me again?''
"No," he lied, he very much wanted to kiss her silly, to run his fingers through her pink hair but he was too civil to behave in such an ill-mannered way. And as alluring as those greens eyes were he couldn't allow them to get the best of him. He had to be strong, this was a drunken woman here after all, she couldn't possibly be provoking such dangerous things inside him by just by being...well...drunk!
She pouted, "But I want a kiss."
"Get it somewhere else," he told her and she laughed.
"But I want you to kiss me," she stopped and pointed at him.
He growled and step around her making his way for the door once again but she anticipated his move and blocked the door with her body.
"Move," he instructed.
She giggled and shook her head, "You have to kiss me first."
"Why in the world would you want me to do that?'' he asked, he was clearly getting upset by the delay.
She ran her hands down his shirt smirking, "because I like the favour of your lips."
His pale eyes widen with surprise but the expression disappeared as soon as it had appeared. "And what flavour is that?'' he asked slightly curious but he wished he hadn't asked.
Lemonade and passion!
"I can't remember," she said innocently, poking the buttons on his shirt one by one. "Maybe another taste...?'' she suggested giggling.
The man had just about exercised all his patience with this cute little pink haired girl. Did she know what she was getting into? He didn't think so. She caught him off guard with all her little flirty comments but they had much greater impacts on him than he thought they would have. Heck he needed to get out of here, before she makes him do something that he'll regret.
"Kiss me and I'll let you go..." she taunted locking the doors with the key and dangling them in front of his eyes. He tried to snatch them but she held her hands behind her and stuck out her tongue. He didn't know why he thought her childishness was sexy, he didn't know why her stubbornness came off as cute and he certainly didn't know why he had kissed her again.
Sakura giggled at the annoyed expression on his face, all she wanted was a kiss, was that too much to ask for? Apparently not... She was almost unaware of him moving closer, cupping her chin in one hand, tipping her face upwards. She felt his breath stir her eyelashes. It was such a gentle, harmless kiss. But then before she knew it the pressure of his mouth became fiercely demanding, his breath frantic, and he was pushing her body against the door, pinning her there. Sakura was so flabbergasted by the sudden aggression that all she could do was laugh weakly when he finally stopped, much to her dislike.
His expression was slightly flushed when he stretched out his hands and politely asked her for the keys. A very expectant look crept across his face when she stretched out the keys in front of him, but before he could grab it she pulled at the collar of her shirt and dropped the keys in her bosom, smirking.
"Sakura...?'' he asked in a kind of whining tone, frowning at the pinkette.
"What?'' she asked grinning. "You didn't think that I'll let you go so easily after a kiss like that now... did you?''
